BOOK BANK

The proposed Book Bank project aims for the following:
i) Aiding the economically weak to attain education through book loans;
ii) Book Bank for the children of the economically weak families of Deoghar district and will provide book loans to children of higher secondary level.
iii) Establish a reference library with quality books;

The activities of the Book Bank project are as under:
a) The Book Bank will provide support to students of Class IX through XII since the Govt. provides books up to Class VIII.
b) To begin with, the Book Bank will provide book loan to 10 children of each class i.e. 50 children, normally from 50 different families, since the reference unit will be the family, unless a specially deserving child happens to be a sister or brother of one of the selected children. In that case more than one child from one family may be supported.
c) The selected children will be provided the books for the entire academic year.
d) There will be an emphasis on girl children to the extent of 60 percent since parents tend to marry out the girl child to avoid incurring expenditure on account of education.
e) Selection will be based on merit (preceding two years performance in school), financial standing of the family, and the likelihood of the child completing secondary education.
f) After identifying the children, we will organize orientation sessions for the parents and the children separately, once before providing the loan and again during renewal of the loan.
g) Before the children can take the books home, they will be put brown paper covers on the books.
h) Book loan will be renewed after six months, when the books will have to be brought back to the Book Bank to ascertain their condition and carry out necessary mending.
i) There will be a token fee for availing book loan, payable twice, once before the loan and again during renewal.
j) Fund generated from token fee will be placed in a account at the Post Office and will be used to replace damaged or lost books and procure reference books.
