Life and Style Advice From a 100 Year Old Lady

At 100 years old Ruth knows the secret to living a long, beautiful life. She lifts weights, does her exercises and practices pilates at least once a week(an activity she started 8 years ago). When I came to visit Ruth in her lovely apartment the first thing she told me was to excuse the mess, but she had been doing stretches on her mat before I arrived. I asked Ruth about her life and style secrets and the key to staying vital and youthful at an older age .Check out Ruth's tips and for more of her wonderful life lessons check out the video above.
Ruth's Life and Style Advice
1."I make myself go out everyday, even if its only to walk around the block. The Key to staying young is to keep moving."
2."Invest in Quality pieces, they never go out of style."
3."Don't look at the calendar just keep celebrating everyday."
4."I dress up everyday and I don't wear blue jeans."
5.Take care of your skin. Make sure and moisturize, inspired by Elizabeth Arden, "If you want to look like this when you are 40 start when you are 20."

BOOK BANK
The proposed Book Bank project aims for the following:
i) Aiding the economically weak to attain education through book loans;
ii) Book Bank for the children of the economically weak families of Deoghar district and will provide book loans to children of higher secondary level.
iii) Establish a reference library with quality books;
The activities of the Book Bank project are as under:
a) The Book Bank will provide support to students of Class IX through XII since the Govt. provides books up to Class VIII.
b) To begin with, the Book Bank will provide book loan to 10 children of each class i.e. 50 children, normally from 50 different families, since the reference unit will be the family, unless a specially deserving child happens to be a sister or brother of one of the selected children. In that case more than one child from one family may be supported.
c) The selected children will be provided the books for the entire academic year.
d) There will be an emphasis on girl children to the extent of 60 percent since parents tend to marry out the girl child to avoid incurring expenditure on account of education.
e) Selection will be based on merit (preceding two years performance in school), financial standing of the family, and the likelihood of the child completing secondary education.
f) After identifying the children, we will organize orientation sessions for the parents and the children separately, once before providing the loan and again during renewal of the loan.
g) Before the children can take the books home, they will be put brown paper covers on the books.
h) Book loan will be renewed after six months, when the books will have to be brought back to the Book Bank to ascertain their condition and carry out necessary mending.
i) There will be a token fee for availing book loan, payable twice, once before the loan and again during renewal.
j) Fund generated from token fee will be placed in a account at the Post Office and will be used to replace damaged or lost books and procure reference books.

Book Collection Drive: Workshop on Learning Physics on 8th May 2011

Injoria is planning to start a book bank for the students who want to study but cannot afford costly reference books. For this Injoria has started a book collection drive in Deoghar. With support of likeminded peoples we have collected around 100 books. To increase the collection we are using different strategies. In this chain we are organizing a workshop for students of class XI & XII and teachers on Learning Physics by Simple Experiments and Demonstration on Sunday 8th of May 2011 from 8 A.M to 12 P.M with support of Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT). IAPT was established in the year 1984 by the great visionary, (Late) Dr. D. P. Khandelwal, with active support from some Physics teachers, with the aim of upgrading the quality of Physics teaching and Physics teachers at all levels. Shri Arvind Pathak, a renowned Physics teacher of Dhanbad, Life member of IAPT and disciple of Dr.H.C. Verma Professor, Department of Physics, IITKanpur will be the resource person for the workshop.
The workshop is free but to support the above cause we are charging a registration fee in the form of books(For Students: Minimum Two books (Science or Math)For Teachers: Minimum Five books (Science or Math)). Apart from reference books we accept magazines, comics, story books, text books for class IX and above in Hindi to be circulated for free among children in rural areas and slums.
We have tried to involve and invite all the prominent senior secondary schools at Deoghar, Jharkhand. We are hoping that we will get a good number of students and teachers to participate in this workshop. This workshop will not only increase the skills of teacher and students but also will support the noble cause we are working for.

News Facts
*This year, the first wave of baby boomers are turning 65 – and with increased age comes increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.
*Our new report, "Generation Alzheimer's: The Defining Disease of the Baby Boomers," sheds light on a crisis that is no longer emerging – but here.
*Many baby boomers will spend their retirement years either with Alzheimer's or caring for someone who has it.
*An estimated 10 million baby boomers will develop Alzheimer's.
*Starting this year, more than 10,000 baby boomers a day will turn 65. As these baby boomers age, one of out of eight of them will develop Alzheimer’s – a devastating, costly, heartbreaking disease. Increasingly for these baby boomers, it will no longer be their grandparents and parents who have Alzheimer’s – it will be them.
"Alzheimer’s is a tragic epidemic that has no survivors. Not a single one," said Harry Johns, president and CEO of the *Alzheimer’s Association. "It is as much a thief as a killer. Alzheimer’s will darken the long-awaited retirement years of the one out of eight baby boomers who will develop it. Those who will care for these loved ones will witness, day by day, the progressive and relentless realities of this fatal disease. But we can still change that if we act now."
*According to the new Alzheimer’s Association report, "Generation Alzheimer’s," it is expected that 10 million baby boomers will either die with or from Alzheimer’s, the only cause of death among the top 10 in America without a way to prevent, cure or even slow its progression. But, while Alzheimer’s kills, it does so only after taking everything away, slowly stripping an individual’s autonomy and independence. Even beyond the cruel impact Alzheimer’s has on the individuals with the disease, Generation Alzheimer’s also details the negative cascading effects the disease places on millions of caregivers. Caregivers and families go through the agony of losing a loved one twice: first to the ravaging effects of the disease and then, ultimately, to actual death.
*"Most people survive an average of four to six years after a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, but many can live as long as 20 years with the disease. As the disease progresses, the person with dementia requires more and more assistance with everyday tasks like bathing, dressing, eating and household activities," said Beth Kallmyer, senior director of Constituent Relations for the Alzheimer’s Association. "This long duration often places increasingly intensive care demands on the nearly 15 million family members and friends who provide unpaid care, and it negatively affects their health, employment, income and financial security."
*In addition to the human toll, over the next 40 years Alzheimer’s will cost the nation $20 trillion, enough to pay off the national debt and still send a $20,000 check to every man, woman and child in America. And while every 69 seconds someone in America develops Alzheimer’s disease today, by 2050 someone will develop the disease every 33 seconds - unless the federal government commits to changing the Alzheimer’s trajectory.
*"Alzheimer’s – with its broad ranging impact on individuals, families, Medicare and Medicaid - has the power to bring the country to its financial knees," said Robert J. Egge, vice president of Public Policy of the Alzheimer’s Association. "But when the federal government has been focused, committed and willing to put the necessary resources to work to confront a disease that poses a real public health threat to the nation – there has been great success. In order to see the day where Alzheimer’s is no longer a death sentence, we need to see that type of commitment with Alzheimer’s." The full text of the Alzheimer’s Association’s "Generation Alzheimer’s" report can be viewed at www.alz.org/boomers.

Happiness increases in later life, survey shows
A 'U-shaped' happiness curve means happiness steadily increases after age 50, according to new research.
A report presented at the Royal Economic Society's annual conference showed that many people experience a mid-life dip after their 20s, before starting to feel satisfied with life again after 50.
Scientists are unable to explain the report's findings but suggest that people tend to assume more wisdom and adapt to life's aspirations better as they get older.
People aged over 65 said they thought it was nicer to be 25, but insisted they feel happier now than they did at that age.
The happiness survey involved respondents from Britain, Switzerland and Germany.
The report by Bert Van Landeghem concluded: 'Both the 25-year-old and 65-year-old might agree that it is nicer to be 25 than to be 65. But the 65 year old might nevertheless be more satisfied, as he has learned to be satisfied with what he has.'
Psychologists also said that having money makes you happier, but only in cases where you have a lot more than your friends and neighbours, and that a person's social standing or status matters more.

Bhajan Sandhya 8th March 2011

Deoghar.. Baba Nagri as popularly called in Jharkhand.. is a very important pilgrimage of North India. So, religion and devotion is an inseparable and very significant part of an average person residing there, more so among the elderly population. Keeping this in mind, we decided to have monthly religious discourses, bhajan sandhyas etc at Virendra Vriddhalay to break the ice among our beneficiaries. The first in this line was organized on 8th of March 2011 with the help of a local Kirtan Group of elderly women and neigbourhood people.
